Meet Angelo from BUGSY MALONE


Watts Rogers, who plays Angelo (a member of Fat Sam’s gang) in Bugsy Malone, is a seventh grader at Hickory Day School. His previous theatre experience includes Newsies and Shakespeare in Love at HCT, as well as Snow White and Alice in Wonderland at the Green Room Community Theatre. 

“I’m excited to be involved in live theatre again,” he said. “I’m in Hickory Rec Lacrosse, and the Archery Team at Hickory Day School. I love formula 1 racing!”

Taylor Kerr will portray Derek in RIPCORD.  Kell’s past theater experience includes a role as Mr. Krabs in SPONGEBOB, THE MUSICAL, and P.T. Barnum in BARNUM, both at BST; and Maurice in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at LTG.  He received an award for Best Floater for 2021 . “My favorite thing about HCT is the community.  I chose this particular show because I wanted to do a show in Hickory, and it looked fun.  I get to skydive.” The Miami native moved to the area with his family a year ago.  Kerr is an Eagle Scout.  He currently works as a server in a local eatery.   RIPCORD will play in the Jeffers Theatre Fridays and Saturdays, March 25 through April 9, at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 3 at 2:30 p.m.; and Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. Opening night, March 25, features reduced-price tickets at $12 for adults and $10 for youth & students. Introducing the PUFFS Ensemble!

Acting in the ensemble for Puffs , the new comedy by Matt Cox, is an energetically fun time for any actor. Each of them has to play multiple roles, from students to teachers to villains, sometimes at the drop of a hat. The Hickory Community Theatre production, which runs October 15-30, has seven talented actors who are up to the challenge. They are Jenni Canterbury, Theresa Decker, Caleb Ernsberger, Betsy Pipher, Jennifer Leigh, Will Vogler and Jared Wachsmuth. Meet Young Celie from THE COLOR PURPLE

Rayna Christian, from Boone, plays young Celie in THE COLOR PURPLE.  The Watauga High School sophomore has performed most recently in THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER at The Rock Boone Church in 2021.  She also acted in the WHS productions of BEANSTALK and SHREK THE MUSICAL as the Fairytale Creature in 2015.  She will be onstage again at WHS in April 2022 as a member of the ensemble for SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL.   “My favorite thing about HCT," she says, "is the chance to do shows that tell stories of Black women. I'm acting in THE COLOR PURPLE alongside two of my siblings. It’s a great show and I also likes that the songs are really pretty.” Rayna plans to become an orthopedic surgeon and belongs to the Health Occupations Student Association at her school.
