Meet Taylor Kerr from RIPCORD

Taylor Kerr will portray Derek in RIPCORD.  Kell’s past theater experience includes a role as Mr. Krabs in SPONGEBOB, THE MUSICAL, and P.T. Barnum in BARNUM, both at BST; and Maurice in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at LTG.  He received an award for Best Floater for 2021.

“My favorite thing about HCT is the community.  I chose this particular show because I wanted to do a show in Hickory, and it looked fun.  I get to skydive.”

The Miami native moved to the area with his family a year ago.  Kerr is an Eagle Scout.  He currently works as a server in a local eatery.  

RIPCORD will play in the Jeffers Theatre Fridays and Saturdays, March 25 through April 9, at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 3 at 2:30 p.m.; and Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. Opening night, March 25, features reduced-price tickets at $12 for adults and $10 for youth & students. Tickets for all other performances are $16 for adults and $10 for youth and students.

Lynn Crawford appears as the Church Soloist in THE COLOR PURPLE.  This dental hygienist originally from Belmont now lives in Conover.  She attended King’s College and Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte.  Her theater experience includes roles in SKELETON CREW, DREAM GIRLS, SISTER ACT, and CROWNS. “My favorite thing about HCT is that they do everything in excellence,” Crawford says.  “I chose THE COLOR PURPLE because it was a great movie.  Also, it has a lot of singing in it, and I love to sing.”  What she likes about her specific role: “She is soulful, energetic, and free.” Crawford’s hobbies include playwrighting, directing, singing, and acting. Meet Cara Vander Wiel as Della in THE CAKE

Cara Vander Wiel’s last time on stage at the Hickory Community Theatre was playing the title character for BECKY’S NEW CAR in 2012. She is returning to HCT for the upcoming production of THE CAKE by Bekah Brunstetter, opening on April 22 in the Firemen’s Kitchen. She’s playing Della, the owner of “Della’s Sweets” in Winston, NC. Della faces a crisis of conscience and faith when asked to make a cake for an unexpected wedding.  That 2012 production was Vander Wiel’s debut at HCT, coming just after she had relocated to Hickory from New York City. Prior to that, she lived in Bradenton , FL, where she attended Manatee State College. Her other theatre credits include Mother in A LOSS OF COLOR and Doris in SOMEBODIES in New York, as well as Winifred in ONCE UPON A MATTRESS and Martha in WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF in Florida. Meet the Production Team for THE COLOR PURPLE

Eric Seale, the Artistic Director of the Hickory Community Theatre, has gathered an experienced and talented creative team to stage the upcoming production of the powerful Broadway musical the color purple. The team includes guest director Tiffany Christian, music director LaKeisha Ross-Johnson, choreographer Anyea Gibson, and stage manager Allison Finch. The show begins performances in the Jeffers Theatre on January 21. THE COLOR PURPLE is Christian’s fifth time in the director’s chair at HCT. Her previous credits include SKELETON CREW in 2021, A RAISIN IN THE SUN in 2020, I AND YOU in 2019, and DREAMGIRLS in 2018. Her other stage work includes roles in RAGTIME, NUNSENSE, THE REVOLUTIONISTS, and NOISES OFF. This is Ross-Johnson’s second outing with HCT. She directed last season’s smash production of EVITA.
