Meet Caitlyn Waltermire, Playwright of BY THE BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL SEA
BY THE BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL SEA, her world-premiere play about family and identity with an otherworldly twist, begins its run at Hickory Community Theatre in mid-February. It's the story of Laura, a woman coping with tragedy and transformation. In the weeks following her sister’s funeral, mysterious scales begin to appear on Laura’s legs. Memories of their father’s book “Captain Peabody’s Fabulous Logbook of Nautical Creatures” lead her to suspect that she and her sister may not be exactly human.
Waltermire’s first show, the musical ONE MORE FINE DAY, won “Best Ensemble” in Midtown Int'l Theatre Festival's 2017 Summer Season. Her subsequent plays have been (or will be) produced in New York, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina, and Texas. They include: LITTLE BITES (Leeds Center for the Arts); DREARY, DEARIE (Cincy Fringe); WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO, KNOWING YOU’RE IN THE WORLD? (Seat of Our Pants Short Play Festival, winner of "Audience Pick" and "Judge's Pick,” judges including Tony-Award winner Cady Huffman and Broadway actor/Sirius XM radio host Christine Pedi); radio drama THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL alongside new works by Silas House and Frank X Walker (AthensWest Theatre Company and WUKY’s Last Minute Gifts), and SOAPWORLD (A LOVE STORY) (Gaslight-Baker Theatre).
